last alster run 2006
the rain left its tears everywhere. the mighty clouds covered the whole area, refusing the sun to shine. the wind blew hard as if it tried to withhold something from coming its way. where were the birds? why didn't they chirp anymore? were they hiding somewhere? it was grey. dark grey and cold, quite cold. 4 degrees. everything around me looked like a graveyard. in the dark winter. suddenly i saw the light. it was red at first. followed by yellow. ohhh... how wonderful, a rainbow. then it turned green. nothing moved.
beep... beep... beep... that damn driver in silver mercedes didn't even move. who gave a shit if you're driving the newest mercedes, when the traffic light turned green, drove off, you mountain tortoise! don't expect the drivers in the city to be so patience as where you came from. it's 2 pm and i need to run!
today's run was nothing more than a fartlek. after a really super long of not wearing my running shoes, i managed to carry myself out of the house and run for the last time this year around my alster. started slow and gradually picked up the speed and at certain point i did a so-called sprint for about 300 m. man, that was good. when was the last time i really ran? it was 3rd december 2006 during the standard chartered singapore marathon. gee... that was a nice memory. anyway, the paths along the alster was quite muddy and at times i have to jump over the pool of water. halfway running through i managed to overtake someone and somehow that guy was not that amused being overtaken. he overtook me and i let him to run about 15 to 20 meters in front of me. the last 1.5 km of my alster run i'd decided to give a little speed. hee... hee... he followed closely behind but at the slope, i turned another gear up and sped all the way for about 200 meters and slowed down. the guy came closer and i sped up again. slowed down again and sped up again till the end. that guy must be fuming. who cares. well actually i was doing my fartlek, running whatever tempo i like. did a run-down jog afterwards at a very slow pace and warm-down exercises.
